Download Voidshard Utilities (219 KB)
These utility programs provide easy to use graphics and sound compression. After installing this package, you will be able to right click on BMP files and choose "Convert to PNG" or right click on a WAV files and choose "Convert to OGG". A compressed file with the same file name but different file type will be created within the same folder. We request that you first convert graphics files to PNG format and sound files to OGG format before submitting them to Voidshard. These utilities use BMP2PNG and Ogg Vorbis compression.

Installing the Voidshard Client

1. Download and run the Voidshard installation program
2. If you wish, you can choose to install Voidshard to a different destination folder than the default provided by clicking Browse
3. Press the Install button

A shortcut to Voidshard will be placed on your Desktop and in your Programs listing. Voidshard will also be started automatically.

• If you receive an error concerning missing OCX or missing DLL files, please follow the instructions for Installing the Visual Basic run-time
• If you receive an error that your connection to the Voidshard server has been lost, the server may be offline at the moment
• If you receive a DirectX related error, please ensure that your computer meets the Minimum System Requirements for Voidshard. Depending on your computer's specifications, you may want to try Installing the DirectX run-time and Updating your video card drivers. If you have Intel integrated video, switching your desktop color depth to 16-bit may help (Start->Control Panel->Display->Settings->Colors->High Color 16-bit)

Does my computer meet the minimum system requirements?

1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen
2. Choose Run...
3. Type dxdiag and press OK
4. If you are asked whether you would like to check for WHQL digital signatures, say No
5. On the System tab, take note of your Operating System, Processor, Memory, and DirectX Version
6. Select the Display tab
7. Take note of your Display Device's Name, Manufacturer, Chip Type, Approx. Total Memory, Current Display Mode, and Direct3D Acceleration

Installing the Visual Basic run-time

1. Close any non-essential programs that are running on your computer
2. Download and run theVisual Basic run-time installation program (3.10 MB)
3. Press OK
4. Press the large button with a picture of a computer to begin installation
5. If you are given a warning that a destination file is in use, choose Ignore, then Yes to confirm
6. If you are given a warning that a file being copied is older than one already on your computer, choose to Keep the file already on your computer

Updating your video card drivers

Follow the instructions contained in Does my computer meet the minimum system requirements? to determine the manufacturer and name of your video card.

• The latest drivers for NVidia based video cards can be found at http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
• The latest drivers for ATI video cards can be found at http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
• The latest drivers for Intel integrated video can be found at http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/
• If your video card's manufacturer is not listed above, you'll need to search your video card manufacturer's web site for updated video card drivers

Creating a Shortcut to the Map Editor

In case you want to make a shortcut to the Map Editor on your Desktop, or somewhere else, you can make a Shortcut to the Map Editor Manually by doing the following:

1. Go to Start --> Programs
2. Right-click on the "Voidshard" folder group and Click Open
3. Copy and Paste the "Voidshard" shortcut
4. Rename the copy to "Voidshard Map Editor"
5. Right-click on this shortcut and choose Properties
6. Add /map to the end of the shortcut's Target field
7. When you're done it should look something like: "C:\Program Files\Voidshard\Voidshard.exe" /map
8. Press OK and then try the shortcut
